FDA Information

Avasimibe is yet to receive final FDA approval.

Avasimibe was developed at Warner-Lambert by Brian Krause, a scientist in the same group that invented the blockbuster drug Lipitor®. After having undergone the phase III clinical trials in 2002, Pfizer decided to stop its development.

The main hurdles hit by avasimibe were that it weakened other heart medicines, and its effect was difficult to measure.
